Nusach Sefard
Forms of the Jewish siddurim
Nusach Sefard is a collection of Jewish prayer book forms that aim to merge Ashkenazi customs with the kabbalistic traditions of Isaac Luria. This unique blend of customs is reflected in the incorporation of Sephardi Jewish prayer book wording, known as Nusach Edot ha-Mizrach or Nusach Hasfaradim, into specific prayers. The resulting siddurim, or prayer books, have become an integral part of Jewish worship.
The use of Nusach Sefard is widespread among Hasidim, with nearly universal adoption, as well as among some other Ashkenazi Jews. However, it has not gained significant traction among Sephardi Jews. Within the Hasidic community, different dynasties have developed their own distinct versions of the Nusach Sefard siddur, sometimes with notable variations between them. This diversity reflects the rich and complex heritage of Jewish prayer and tradition.
