Henri Curiel
Jewish-Egyptian communist (1914–1978)
Henri Curiel was a prominent Jewish-Egyptian communist activist, born in Egypt in 1914. His early life and activism culminated in his leadership of the Democratic Movement for National Liberation, a role he held until his expulsion from Egypt in 1950. This event marked a significant turning point in his life, as he subsequently relocated to France and expanded his activism to support various national liberation causes.
Curiel's activism in France was characterized by his support for the Algerian Front de Libération Nationale, as well as his involvement in movements in South Africa and Latin America. Additionally, he was committed to promoting peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Tragically, his life was cut short in 1978 when he was assassinated in Paris. Despite an investigation, the identity of his murderer remains unknown to this day, leaving a lasting enigma surrounding the death of this devoted activist.
