Isadore Twersky

American rabbi (1930–1997)

Isadore Twersky was a prominent American rabbi who made significant contributions to the field of Judaism. Born in 1930, he went on to become a respected Orthodox rabbi and Hasidic Rebbe, as well as a distinguished university professor. His academic career culminated in his appointment as the Nathan Littauer Professor of Hebrew Literature and Philosophy at Harvard University, a prestigious position previously held by Harry Austryn Wolfson.

Twersky's expertise in Rabbinic literature and Jewish philosophy earned him international recognition. He was particularly renowned for his in-depth knowledge of the works and influence of notable Jewish figures, including the 12th-century philosopher Maimonides and Abraham ben David, also known as the Rabad of Posquieres. Through his scholarship, Twersky shed light on the rich cultural and intellectual heritage of Judaism, leaving a lasting legacy in the field. He passed away in 1997, leaving behind a remarkable body of work that continues to inspire and inform students of Jewish studies.
