David Blis

Cuban activist (1872–1942)

David Blis was a Cuban activist of Jewish descent, born in 1872 in Grodno, Poland. His life took him across the Americas, as he emigrated from his native Poland to South America. In 1906, he married a Sephardic Jew from Chile in Argentina, marking a significant personal milestone in his life. This period of his life was characterized by movement and relocation, ultimately leading him to Mexico.

Blis' time in Mexico was short-lived, as he joined the wave of emigrants fleeing the country due to the Revolution of 1912. In 1913, he relocated to Cuba, where he would eventually become a prominent figure in the Jewish community. As a Jewish activist, Blis' work and legacy were rooted in his faith and his experiences as a Jewish immigrant in Cuba. Although the details of his activism are not well-documented, his life story reflects the complex and often tumultuous history of Jewish migration and settlement in the Americas during the early 20th century. He passed away in 1942, leaving behind a legacy as a devoted member of the Cuban Jewish community.
