Abraham Hayyim Adadi

Abraham Hayyim Adadi was a prominent Sephardi Hakham who played a significant role in the 19th-century Jewish community of Tripoli, Libya. He held various esteemed positions, including dayan, av beit din, and senior rabbi, demonstrating his expertise and leadership in Jewish law and community affairs. Earlier in his life, Adadi resided in Safed, Palestine, where he would later return in his final years.

Adadi's career was marked by extensive travel throughout the Middle East and North Africa as a shadar, raising vital funds for the Safed community. His literary contributions include the publication of several halakhic works, which showcased his knowledge of Jewish law. Additionally, he documented the local customs, or minhagim, of Tripoli and Safed, creating a valuable archive for scholars and historians to study. After spending time in Tripoli, Adadi returned to Safed, where he passed away and was laid to rest.
